Black-winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus).

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Northern Cape Province, South Africa.

Canon EOS R5 Mark II with a Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM lens and a Canon EF Extender 1.4x

ISO 800.  1/6400 sec @ f/5.6.  Handheld.  Supported on a Blubb® beanbag.

As mentioned in one of my blogs on our recent trip to the Kgalagadi, the park was teeming with smaller raptors. The most common small raptor was the Black-winged kite, shown here just after it had taken off from its perch. Am always fascinated by the bright orange eyes of this species.
